Vodafone Essar continues to hold on to its lead in the Mobile Number Portability statistics, according to the latest data shared by the Cellular Operators’ Association (COAI), the GSM interest group.
Vodafone, which has been leading the list of ‘net gainers’ — operators who have seen more people join them than leave them — continued to maintain its clear leadership with one fourth of the total ‘switchers’ moving to Vodafone. In comparison, it accounted for only 15% of those who moved out.
COAI however did not specify how old the porting data is, as the total number of porting subscribers, according to the data, is only less than 2 million. According to the telecom regulator, the total number of porting subscribers has already reached around 5 million at present.
According to the data, MNP helped Vodafone gain around 2 lakh subscribers, followed by Idea, which gained 1.5 lakh and Airtel, which net gained 1.48 lakh subscribers.
The biggest loser continued to be the CDMA operators and the state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL). Anil Ambani’s Reliance Communications lost 3 lakh subscribers, followed by BSNL with a net loss of 1.5 lakh and Tata with a net loss of 40,000 subscribers.
