Vodafone to pay Rs 19600 crore for Spectrum

Vodafone said it would pay Rs 19,600 crore (Rs 196 bln) for the spectrum that it won in the just concluded auction process.

Vodafone has won bandwidth in 11 circles – Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Karnataka, Kerala, Gujarat, UP East, Rajasthan, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab.

It said it will be paying 56 bln rupees in the first year, under the installment payment scheme of the government of India.

Vodafone said it has increased its data capabilities by buying 4G spectrum for the next generation of mobile services in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Karnataka and Kerala.

With this, “Vodafone Mumbai is the only operator in India to have data capabilities on all the commercial spectrum bands: 3G on 900MHz and 2100MHz and 4G on 1800MHz.”

Vodafone also said it has secured its business for the next 20 years in 3 most important circles –Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata.

It said it is now well placed to introduce the 4th generation of wireless services on the 1800 MHz band.
