Huawei Nexus 6P has barely started its journey in India that it is up against a new competitor – the AMOLED-display laden Moto X Force aka Droid Turbo 2 – which will be launched in India on Feb 1 according to sources.
The phone will carry a price tag of between Rs 36,000 and 37,000 for the 64 GB version. The Nexus 6P is priced Rs 38,000 for the 32 GB model. Another potential competitor in this segment, the 64-GB Gionee’s Elife E8 costs Rs 35,000 in India.
MOTO DROID TURBO 2
The Moto X Force was first announced in the US under the name Moto Droid Turbo 2 in November, four months after the original X (Play and Style) series were unveiled. Unlike the first two X models, the latest one does not offer a 16 GB variant and is a premium offering.
In terms of price and positioning, the phone is placed higher than Moto X Style. Unlike the older model, which flaunts the Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor, the Force comes with a more powerful Snapdragon 810 chipset and support for DDR4 RAM.
The SD810 also contains the superior Adreno 430 processor, while the SD808 has Adreno 418.
However, it should be remembered that the SD810 has found its going marred by issues of overheating, which has sort of restricted its market.
The other big difference between the new model and the Style is in display quality.
While the older one comes with a normal QHD LCD display, the Force incorporates high-end AMOLED technology, which is also found in both the Nexus 6P and Gionee Elife E8.
However, the three phones have very different display sizes.
The Gionee Elife E8 comes with a 6-inch screen, which offers 11% more area than the 5.7-inch screen on the Nexus 6P and 23% more viewing area than the Moto X Force, which has a 5.4 inch screen.
To compare the two Motorola models, the 5.7-inch Moto Style offers 11.4% more area than the 5.4 inch screen of the Force.
On the positive side, the Lenovo-owned company has used a special 5-layer construction for the screen on the new model and claims that it cannot be shattered via the usual accidental drops and knocks. Cracked displays are, by far, the most vexing and expensive problems faced by smartphone users.
The resolution of the cameras — at 21 MP and 5 MP — continues to be the same as that of the Style, though there are reports that the pixel size is higher.
Another area of improvement is RAM. Though both X models contain 3 GB, the Turbo 2 comes with DDR4 type, which is faster than the DDR3 memory contained in the earlier model.
In comparison, the Gionee E8 has DDR3 RAM while the Huawei Nexus 6P comes with 3 GB DDR4 memory.
The Turbo also supports upto 2 TB of external memory and has a substantially bigger battery (3.8 Ah) compared to the earlier model (3 Ah).
Unless you hunger after humongous screen-sizes, the Force offers one of the best configurations in the market for a reasonable price. Till now, the Gionee Elife E8 has been the most value for money phone with an AMOLED display and up-to-date configurations.
The new Motorola model, however, gives it some competition in terms of delivering value.
The only other device that is comparable in terms of value (besides Moto’s own models) is the Yu Yutopia, which suffers from a 5.2 inch non-AMOLED screen.
