Samsung is approaching the launch of the updated versions of its A series smartphones in India — the Galaxy A3, A5 and A7 — later this month, according to a Delhi-based distributor.

The phones are unlikely to be web exclusives and would be available in the general market, according to the distributor.

The Korean giant is also readying the Galaxy A9 for a simultaneous launch. “We expect a launch of all four models this month itself,” he said.

Samsung Mobile India has been hyper active as far as product launches are concerned.

Last week, the company unveiled two new entry-level devices, the Galaxy On5 and On7 — priced at just Rs 8,999 and Rs 10,990 respectively. Before that, it launched its entry-level J series phones and its high-end S Series devices.

The phones are the cheapest devices ever launched by Samsung in India with a display size of 5 inches or more.

However, it has been its A series — particularly the A5 and A7 — that have been the most successful launches by the brand in India this year.

Despite flaunting full-HD Super AMOLED displays, there were largely price-comparable with similar models from brands such as Sony and HTC with non-AMOLED displays.

The details of the update applied to these three phones have not been leaked yet. However, there are reports that they will feature Android 6 Marshmallow out of the box.

At present, the only Marshmallow phones in India are the two Nexus devices launched earlier this year — the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P.

Another key factor to watch out for would be pricing.

These phones were launched about ten months ago at a price of Rs 20,500, 25,500 and 30,500. Currently, the A3 and A7 are selling at a discount of Rs 7,500 from their launch prices, while the A5 is selling at a discount of Rs 5,500.

The new phones will be priced below what their predecessors were priced at.
