ninebot-miniXiaomi, the Chinese brand known for bringing high technology to low budgets, has launched its own Segway-type scooter at just 1,999 Yuan, which translates to about Rs 20,000.

The scooter, named Ninebot Mini – has a top speed of 16 km per hour and can go up inclines of up to 15 degrees.

The total weight of the device, made in collaboration with Segway, is just 12.8 kg, which means that you can carry the thing in your hands.

The Ninebot Mini can be steered using the legs.

The device travels up to 22km on a single charge, can be controlled using a smartphone and is made of aerospace-grade magnesium alloy.

It is not clear if and when the device will be launched in India. Xiaomi has not launched some of its keenly anticipated devices, including Mi TV, in India despite strong demand from fans.

The underlying technology has been sourced from Segway.

The Segway personal transport device is a two-wheeled, self-balancing, battery-powered electric vehicle invented by Dean Kamen.

It is produced by Segway Inc. of New Hampshire.

Computers, sensors, and electric motors in the base of the device keep the device upright when powered on with balancing enabled.

The rider gets device to go forward or backward by shifting their weight forward or backward on the platform.

The PT uses gyroscopic sensors and accelerometer-based leveling sensors to detect the resulting changes in its pitch angle and, to maintain balance, it drives its wheels forward or backward as needed to return its pitch to upright.

Xiaomi also announced the third and the latest in its line-up of Smart TVs – Mi TV 3. The 60-inch, 4K UHD TV is available for just Rs 4,999 Yuan (50,000 rupees) in China.
