Tata Sky too debuts remote-recording for its DVR boxes

After Airtel Digital, Tata Sky, one of India’s biggest DTH players, has introduced a mobile application that can control its recording-enabled set top boxes.

The application, that will work only on apple products (unlike Airtel’s Java app) can also be combined with an ‘orb-shaped’ (elongated spherical) device to control the TV and set top box directly as a remote. The android version is in the works.

The ‘orb shaped’ device, which is plugged into the iPhone or iPad or iPod’s earphone jack, costs Rs 350, and can also control your DVD player and music system, according to Tata Sky.

The physical device is not required for the remote-record facility as that is achieved through the freely downloadable application on your phone.

The app, available on iTunes and developed by Ryz media, allows subscribers to view which programmes their Facebook friends are currently watching.
