Nokia Lumia 1330 to launch in India mid-March, price Rs 19,999

Nokia Lumia 1330, the 5.7-inch successor to the 6-inch Lumia 1320, will launch in India by the middle of March, according to a distributor, and will carry a price tag of Rs 19,999.

At that price, the phone will also compete with Lumia 830, which is priced around the same range.

In many ways, except in camera and display size, nearly everything is the same between the two models.

Both are built around the Snapdragon 400 series chipset and come with 1 GB of RAM and have 720p displays. Neither support LTE, at least in India.

The only notable improvement is in camera. While the 830 has a 10 MP Pure View camera, the Lumia 1330 will have a 14 MP Pure View camera.

So, what’s interesting? Frankly, apart from the relatively large size, not much. In fact, unless you’re a windows phone fanatic, it’s tough to see the attraction of 1330.

That said, we’ve seen some who love their 1320s. Perhaps the 1330s will work its magic on them too. The 1320, by the way, is currently selling in India for about Rs 13,000.

As expected, the last batch of Lumias – 730, 830 and 930, saw quite a bit of price erosion in the five months since they were launched.

The Lumia 830, which was launched at around Rs 28,700, is currently available at about Rs 20,500, while the Lumia 730, launched at about Rs 15,300, is now available at Rs 13,285.

The highest-end Lumia 930, which was the only one to sport a full HD display, is now available at Rs 29,000 on Indiatimes.com, while it was launched at Rs 38,649 five months ago.

In other words, Lumias have a track-record of seeing heavy decline in prices.

However, given that the Lumia 830 and the Lumia 1330 are essentially the same piece of hardware except for the size and the camera, we believe a price of Rs 19,999 for the bigger phone is not totally unjustified within the Lumia family.

However, you should keep in mind that by that time, the HTC Desire 826 will also have launched for about Rs 26,000. The HTC Desire 826 will have Snapdragon 615 chipset and a full HD 5.5-inch display.

Another large phone in this price range that will compete with the Lumia 1330 is the Samsung E7. The Samsung E7 is already available in India and has better specifications than the Lumia 1330.

The Samsung E7, priced at Rs 20,300 now, comes with a 5.5-inch, 720p Super Amoled display, which should offer a better experience than a 5.7-inch 720p LCD display.

In addition, the Samsung E7 has 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage memory. It also comes with Snapdragon 410 chipset and a 2.95 Ah battery.

Another contender in the 20,000 bracket will be the 5.5-inch HTC Desire 820s. This phone will have about 60-70% more power than the E7 and the Nokia Lumia 1330 as it comes with an octa-core MT6752 chipset, compared to the quad-core versions on the others.
