MediaTek MT6795 beats Snapdragon 810 in Geekbench 3

The upcoming 64-bit LTE chipset from MediaTek, MT6795, has beaten the Snapdragon 810 chipset in Geekbench 3, which measures core processor capability.

UPDATE – More results have come forth that show MediaTek MT6795 score above 1,000 single core and 5,400 all-core.

Similarly, the HTC M9, powered by S 810, scores around 3,800 on GeekBench 3.

In the benchmark, the MT6795-based device scored a total of 4536 in the multi-core category. This is the third-highest score, after the NVIDIA Tegra K1 (found in Nexus tablets) and the Samsung Exynos 7420.

The Exynos 7420 scored 5478 in multi-core tests.

The MediaTek MT6795 has now pushed the Snapdragon 810 to the fourth place. The LG G Flex 2, which comes equipped with the chipset, had scored 4,398 on the platform back earlier this month.

Both MediaTek MT6795 and Snapdragon 810 are octa-core processors and have four high-power Cortex-A57 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores.

The A53 is the evolved version of the low-power Cortex A7 cores that was popular in mobile processors last year.

On the downside, the single-core performance of the MT6795 was below expectations at just 886. In comparison, the Snapdragon device scored 1217.

We will await further results before figuring out whether it was a fluke or whether single-core performance would indeed be below that of Snapdragon 810.

It must also be noted that these scores frequently change as and when new models become available for testing. In addition, these scores are dependent on factors such as display resolution, RAM and the type of memory used.

Another key point to note is that the Geekbench 3 test does not really test the graphics processor.

Another test, which tests most things including memory performance, is Antutu. On this, the processor has been shown to score about 36,000. On this test, the Snapdragon 810 seems to have an edge over the MT6795 with the LG G Flex 2 scoring about 42,000.
