Acer starts upgrade of Iconia tablets to Android Ice Cream Sandwich

Acer has said it is now updating its Iconia tablets to the latest version of Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

The Iconia Tab A200 in the United States will be the first to get the over-the-air updates, followed by the Iconia Tab A100 7-inch tablet and Acer Iconia Tab A500 10-inch tablet in April, Acer said.

The Ice Cream Sandwich is the latest and greatest version of the Google Android operating system.

The upgrade will provide a faster browser, enhanced app and folder management options, more intuitive navigation, and a completely reimaged design that is more polished with enhanced holographic effects, acer said.

It will also improve multitasking and switching between tasks, it said.

The updated tablets will also have the ‘Acer Ring,’ — a new way to access apps, surf the web, capture screen images, post photos and status updates to their social networks.

Users will also see improved zoom and the ability to take snapshots while recording video, greater image stabilization and improved integration with third party apps, Acer said.
