Toyota reported a 12% jump in India vehicle sales in November compared to a year ago, but India sales declined year on year.
Most of the increase was because of strong exports. India sales fell by about 1.4% to 10,208 vehicles in November.
November numbers are a reversal for the maker of Innova and Etios line of cars. In the festival month of October, for example, domestic market sales were up 7% at 13,162 units.
The November total was an 18% decline from October.
“The market continues to be sluggish and market sentiments are not expected to improve in the coming months,” said Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, an 89% subsidiary of Toyota Motor of Japan.
Toyota Kirloskar registered total sales of 12,748 units in November 2013. The company exported 2,540 units of the Etios in November, compared to 2,414 units of Etios in October.
The company sold 10,208 units in the domestic market in November.
Toyota Kirloskar has two plants in India – both near Bangalore.
It makes Innova, Fortuner, Corolla Altis, Etios, Etios Liva, Camry and Camry Hybrid. It also imports Prado, Land Cruiser and Prius imported as completely built units.
