TRAI denies CNBC story on new cancellation move

TRAI Chairman JS Sarma denied CNBC TV18’s report that the regulator has just recommended cancellation of 69 2G licenses.

He said the body has not taken any such action. “I don’t know what CNBC is trying to do,” he said when asked about the report.

TRAI had, a day after the CAG report indicting A Raja, recommended cancellation of 38 licences awarded in 2008 and legal scrutiny of another 31, taking the total to 69.

According to a report on the CNBC today, TRAI “recommended” cancelling 69 licenses.

“It is old news.. We wrote the letter in November,” Sarma said.
