iPad 4 hits Apple stores in India, priced at Rs 32-52k

After much waiting, Apple iPad 4, the latest in the series of tablets made by the iconic brand, has hit Apple Stores in India.

According to consumer reports, Apple iPad 4, released a few weeks ago in the U.S., is now available in certain Apple Stores, particularly in the bigger cities like Delhi and Mumbai.

“I am very impressed with it.. It’s better than having a girl friend,” said Sanjay K, who bought a A1460 model from the Delhi Connaught Place Apple Store on the weekend.

Interestingly, the price of the Apple iPad 4 in India is only slightly higher than that of the iPad 3, which was launched in April this year. While the 32 GB 3G version of the iPad 3 comes for around Rs 42,900, a similar version of iPad 4 is priced at about Rs 45,900. The device was earlier priced at about Rs 60,000 in the grey market.

The primary, and perhaps the only meaningful, difference between the iPad 3 and its successor is in processing power and, to some extent, in the front facing camera.

The iPad 4 is supposed to have double the processing power of its predecessor, thanks to the new 1.4 GHz dual-core A6X chipset. It also has the new PowerVR 554MP4 quad-core GPU (graphics processor).

In addition, the front camera can now record HD video and has a 1.2 megapixel resolution. The device also comes with a new type of USB port, called the ‘Lighting’ port, which makes syncing with the iPhone 5 easy.
