Mayawati may support Government on FDI, TMC no-confidence fails to get support

BSP leader Mayawati refused to clarify her stand on foreign direct investment (FDI) in retail, speaking after the Lok Sabha was adjourned on the first day of the winter session.

“We will clarify our stand on FDI only in the Parliament,” Mayawati said, speaking outside the Parliament immediately after the Lok Sabha was adjourned till noon due to protests.

Meanwhile, the Mamata Bannerjee’s Trinamool Congress’ no confidence motion failed to garner support of 50 MPs and was rejected by the Speaker, after most parties, including those of the opposition, failed to support.

MP Sudip Bandhopadhyay introduced the motion. “The government’s decision to allow FDI in retail is going to harm millions of small businessmen,” the MP said, introducing the motion.

Bannerjee, who quit the ruling alliance a few months ago over rising fuel prices, has been trying to cobble up support for a no-confidence motion against the government. However, she has had limited support from parties that are weary of facing an election immediately.
