Tata DOCOMO has cut the prices of its CDMA-EVDO high speed internet service to bring them in line with the reduced tariffs offered by major competitors like Airtel and Idea.
It has introduced two new plans, mirroring those of its main competitors.
Like Idea, users of Tata Phone Plus (+) can now get 6 GB of high speed internet for Rs 950. It also offers 11 GB for Rs 1200, which is cheaper than similar plans offered by Airtel and Vodafone (both Rs 1650). If a user finishes his quota, he can continue to surf at 2G speeds for the remaining part of the month.
It has also cut the price of its 1 GB pack to Rs 250 — the same as what is charged by Idea, Airtel, Vodafone etc. — and its 2 GB pack to Rs 450, also the same as what competitors are offering.
It may be noted that Tata Photon Plus is not a traditional 3G service. Most 3G networks in India have maximum speeds of around 10 Mbps, though they usually give only around 2-4 Mbps. Tata’s Photon Plus is based on the CDMA-EVDO technology. In India, EVDO supports a maximum speed of about 3 Mbps and usually delivers around 2 Mbps.
Tariffs of Tata DoCoMo 3G dongles have not been cut, going by the official announcement. Tata DoCoMo 3G tariffs are the highest in India and costs several times what some other operators offer.
