CBI very close to Kalmadi’s door

The noose is gradually tightening around Suresh Kalmadi, the former Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Common Wealth Games (CWG). With the arrest of his deputy, Lalit Bhanot , a former Secretary General of the CWG by the CBI today it is now speculated that very soon Kalmdi would also be behind bars .

N K Verma, another close associate of Kalamadi, was also taken into custody. The arrest of Bhanot and Verma comes on the heels of the sacking of these officials from the Organizing Committee of the CWG last month by the newly appointed Sports Minister, Ajay Maken.
CBI arrested Bhanot and Verma after questioning them earlier in the day. According to CBI sources they are alleged to be involved into the irregularities in a Rs.1.07 billion ($37 million) contract with a Swiss company for time-keeping equipment during the CWG games last year.
Irregularities are also alleged to have taken place in the hiring of a Swiss firm, Event Knowledge Services (EKS) as CWG’s technical consultant
