Lavasa asks for 6 weeks

Lavasa has asked for a six month extension to submit details of its hill city project near Pune. The government had, in an order a week ago, said that the firm should subject all details of its project report so as to come up with a plan to remedy any environmental degradation the company may have caused at its project site.

“Lavasa Corporation has asked for an extension of six weeks as Lavasa has submitted relevant documents requested by the MoEF in their final Order dated January 17, 2011. This is as per our discussions with Mr. Jairam Ramesh, Minister, Environment and Forests, Lavasa Corporation has asked for time to consider a solution,” the company said in a statement.

Lavasa Corporation head Ajit Gulabchand has met with the environment minister Jairam Ramesh multiple times in the last one week to seek a ‘negotiated’ settlement to the controversy. Lavasa is in the dock for allegedly not securing any environmental clearance for its 5,000 hectare project.
