HP bounces back in December quarter, says Gartner

HP, the world’s number one PC brand that had lost its India crown to Dell early in 2010, came back on top during the fourth quarter, according to numbers released by IT tracker Gartner.

Against Dell’s 13% marketshare, HP accounted for 15.8% share of all PCs sold in the quarter ended December 2010, according to the agency.

There was a growth of almost 40% in laptop segment, compared to the same quarter of 2009. Overall, PC numbers jumped 16.2% to 2.7 million units during the quarter.

Dell, which started focusing on India only 3 years ago, managed to upset 5-year champion HP in early 2010 after the latter steadily lost marketshare.
