Moser Baer ties up with leading US solar supplier

Moser Baer Solar, the largest Indian photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturer and part of the Moser Baer optical media group, has tied up Munro Distributing Co., one of the top solar equipment distribution firms in the US.

Munro will offer Moser Baer’s solar modules and sue them in its designs of commercial turnkey solar PV systems, the Delhi-based firm said.

Among others, Munro also has a similar tie up with LG Solar.

Moser Baer did not reveal the expected business that Munro tie up will provide, but pointed out that the US is seeing a ‘solar renaissance’ of sorts.

” According to the European Photovoltaic Industry Association, globally there was been an increase about 16 gigawatts of new solar photovoltaic (PV) installations in 2010 and US accounted for only 0.8 GW of this growth. Significantly, the US market is likely to grow from 1GW in 2010 to 3GW in 2012,” it pointed out.

Moser Baer has so far been focused on the European market, where subsidies and schemes led to a rapid growth of the Solar market. It exports nearly all of its production out of India and has the largest panel and module capacity in India, though others are fast catching up.

“An alliance with an experienced and highly respected company such as Munro Distributing represents the perfect way forward for Moser Baer to expand our presence in the USA” said Deepak Kukreja, Head of Strategic Planning at MBSL.
