Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has accused the national rights commissions — the National Human Rights Commission and the National Commission for Women — of acting like opposition parties.
Her comments have come after the National Commission for Women and National Human Rights Commission jumped into the controversy of a group of policemen allegedly raping and killing a 14-year-old child in Lakhimpur.
Both the Commissions, whose members are appointed by the Congress Government at the Centre, have made uncharitable comments on Mayawati’s government over the last two days.
Both Commissions have taken suo motu cognizance of the episode and sent investigative teams to the ground. NCW chief Yasmeen Abrar even called the condition in UP “anarchy” and urged Maywati to take control of her police force.
NCW had, a month ago, claimed that women saw people being set on fire and women raped in Bhatta Parsaul as the UP police put down an armed struggle by farmers in Noida, a Delhi suburb.
