Suresh Kalmadi’s bail plea rejected in Swiss Timing case

The special CBI judge Talwant Singh hearing the Swiss Timing scam case against Suresh Kalmadi has rejected his bail application.

The CBI argued that he has already tampered with documents and other evidence and if set on bail, may tamper or seek to influence witnesses in the case.

Kalmadi is accused of illegally favoring the Swiss timing firm, which got the timing contract for CWG timing and scoring.

It is alleged that the rates at which the contract was awarded was exorbitant.

CBI alleges that Kalmadi was the main functionary of the Organising Committee who brought about a situation to favour Swiss Timing in the selection process.

The CBI alleges that Rs 27 crore out of the total contracted value for TSR Rs 157 crore came back to Swiss Timing’s Indian partner, Gem International for technical consultancy and sub contract related advances and the firm in its turn transferred Rs 72 lakh to Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty through event management firm Wizcraft.
