Supreme Court dismisses plea for re-exam in AIEEE

The Supreme Court has dismissed a plea that asked for a re-examination of the All India Engineering Entrance Exam after papers were leaked.

The AIEEE examination results can now be released by the Government body.

The Supreme Court said that nearly 10 lakh students have been waiting for the results of the examination and they cannot be held to ransom.

On 1 March this year, leaked papers of the AIEEE — used as an entrance by many government engineering colleges — surfaced in markets in Lucknow. The exam is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSE.

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force even arrested one person in connection with the paper leak. The question paper was allegedly being sold for Rs 6 lakh and was alleged to have leaked out through Kanpur or Bihar.

The plea in the Supreme Court was made by some students who alleged that going with the exams will give an unfair edge to those who bought the question paper from the open market.
