The good up by the Home ministry and the CBI in making India’s most wanted list “shall not be condoned” or “taken lightly,” the Congress party has said.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi, the spokesperson of the party, said an investigation is currently on to apportion the blame for the mess and action will definitely be taken.
“It is a serious matter. We are taking steps to fix the responsibility for what happened and to prevent a recurrence,” he told reporters.
He said that Congress did not want to make any “knee jerk comments” about the matter when asked about demands by the opposition parties such as the BJP for home minister P Chidambaram to step down.
Over the last two days, it has come to light that two of the 50 alleged terrorists listed by India on its ‘most wanted list’ and handed over to foreign governments were already arrested.
While number 24 Feroz Abdul Rashid Khan was found to be in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail, another alleged terrorist Wazhul Kamar Khan, accused in three bomb blasts, was found to be residing in Thane, out on bail.
Feroz is wanted in the 1993 Bombay blast case and was arrested in February 2010. Khan is an accused in the 2003 Mulund train blast, was arrested in May 2010.
In addition, the Chief of Manipuri terror outfit United National Liberation Front, Raj Kumar Meghen, who is already dead, also remains wanted in India’s ‘Red Corner’ notice.
