Kanimozhi arrest won’t rock the boat with DMK: Congress

The Congress has said that the arrest of Kanimozhi will not affect its alliance with DMK and that it will not comment on the matter.

“I don’t think it is necessary for a political party to comment upon the merits of an ongoing judicial proceeding… This being a matter between accused persons and investigating agences, the alliance continues as before,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

There is no connection or impact on the alliance, which remains as before, he added.

Singhvi drew a line between what the government does and the law and investigating agencies and the Courts doing their duty.

“All parties have legal rights and recourse to appropriate appellate remedies and it is certainly not any matter for the Congress to comment upon,” Singhvi said.

He also said that the Congress felt that the goof up in India’s most wanted list by the home ministry was a “serious matter.”

“It does not take it lightly, or condone it,” he clarified.

He said that steps are being “taken to fix the responsibility for what happened and to prevent a recurrence,” he said, when asked about opposition demands for the stepping down of Chidambaram as home minister.
