AP, Gujarat & Kerala will be the first states without open defecation

Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Kerala have committed to be 100% open-defecation free by March 2017, minister for urban development Venkaiah Naidu said at a workshop in Delhi.

By the same time, the number of open defecation free cities will rise from 122 to 739 by the time, Naidu added.

The Minister said that 21 lakh individual household toilets and 90,000 community and public toilet seats have been constructed so far under Swatch Bharat campaign.

Another 21 lakhs individual household toilets and 1.4 lakh community and public toilet seats are under construction, he added.

Swachh Bharat is a national campaign by the Government of India covering 4,041 cities and towns to clean the streets roads and infrastructure of the country.
