Tata Power said it expects to normalize power supply to the city of Mumbai by late night today, as it deals with the aftermath of a ‘tripping’ at one of its power production units in the city.
Power supply to Mumbai was disrupted at 09:45 AM due to tripping of 500 MW unit at Trombay Power Station due to technical hurdle. Restoration work on the unit is under progress, the company said.
Tata Power also said it tried to import power from neighbouring regions within Maharashtra, but was unable to do so due to congestion.
“While the power is available in neighbouring areas of Maharashtra however due to overloading of state transmission network, it has not been made possible to import power for Mumbai by these distribution companies. The distribution companies are now doing a rotational load shedding in their respective areas of about 200-300 MW,” it said.
Tata Power has been able to restore power partially through hydro stations, and has started work on getting its oil-fired plant ready for operation.
That unit, it said, was kept on cold with the consent of its customers.
Today’s tripping resulted in load reduction of Parel, Mahalaxmi, Dharavi, Chembur and Gr Road area of Mumbai. The load reduction was done to control load on a 220Kv Khargar – Nerul – Sonkar – Trombay tie line.
Tata Power supplies power to both its group concern BEST as well as to Reliance Infrastructure in Mumbai.
