NHAI suspends toll collection on all National Highways till Nov 11

gadkariThe National Highway Authority of India has suspended collection of tolls on all national highways in the country.

“It has been decided to suspend Toll across all National Highways till midnight of 11th November to facilitate smooth traffic movement,” Road Transport minister Nitin Gadkari said.

The clarification comes in the wake of troubles faced by motorists with regard to toll payments.

India derecognized two high-value currency denominations overnight.

Though tolls are almost always lower than Rs 100, some motorists may not have 100 rupee notes.

As a result, motorists end up tendering 500 rupee and 1000 rupee notes. However, these notes have been ‘demonitized’ with effect from today.

The latest step is likely to ease traffic flow throughout the country. Most of the highways with tolls are controlled by the central government, though there are a few that are controlled by state government. The toll waiver is not applicable to these.
