Darjeeling born and Harvard educated Tibetan leader Lobsang Sangey has become the new Prime Minister of the Tibetan government in exile.
The result for the elections of the 15th Parliament in exile was announced today in Dharamshala, the capital of the Tibetan government in exile.
For the first time the role of the prime Minister is going to be far more politically significant than the past. The reason being the announcement by the spiritual leader,Dalai Lama to abdicate all political role in the management of the Tibetan affairs.
The new Prime Minister will have the responsibility to guide the Tibetan movement from where Dalai Lama has left it.
A section of the exile Tibetan population has been growing disgruntled with the politics of Dalai Lama who has not been able to achieve much in terms of restoration of the Tibetan autonomy.
The election for the new Prime Minister took place on March 20 and from the beginning Sangey has been widely regarded as the front-runner.
This young and suave politician is very popular among the new generation Tibetans who have been demanding a change of leadership at the highest level for quite sometime.
Out of 1,50,000 Tibetans living in exile 85,000 of them are believed to have cast their votes.
