Uninor, Micromax fastest growing telecom cos in India – Survey

Indian telecom industry grew by 10.8% last financial year, with equipments segment growing faster than services, according to Voice & Data Annual India Telecom industry Survey 2014.

The top three telecom service providers in the country – Airtel, Vodafone and Idea account for more than 50% of the services revenues for FY 2013-14.

“Launch of data services essentially 4G and strengthening of 3G services launched in previous years are continuing to strengthen the position of the operators in the market and hence yield better revenue results for them,” it said.

Among the major service providers, Uninor has registered the maximum YoY growth of over 21%.

The total revenues generated in the telecom industry in India for the FY 2013-14 stood at INR 429,087 crore compared to INR 387,298 crore for the previous financial year. Telecom equipment sales, including base stations, handsets and electronics, were up 11.6% compared to 10.1% growth registered by services.

Services comprise the normal voice and data services and includes enterprise as well as user services of voice, data and other services.

Services segment that fetched cumulative revenues of INR 233,793 crore (54% of total revenues) while the equipments and solutions amounted to INR 195,294 crore (46% of total revenues).

“The ghost years of the India Telecom industry seem to have gone and we are seeing both – infrastructure as well as services grow. On the equipment vendors’ side, Samsung, Nokia and Indus Towers lead the vendor and solution providers’ community with the top three players contributing a little over 29% of the total India Telecom Equipment revenues for FY 2013-14. From the vendors’ side, the list of leading players is dominated by user devices manufacturers, tower companies and telecom core equipment vendors. Among the vendors Micromax has shown phenomenal YoY growth of over 115% in revenues.
