Volkswagen reports 31% rise in sales in June

Volkswagen, Europe’s largest carmaker sold 4,039 units in June 2015 as compared to 3,079 units sold in the corresponding month, the previous year, marking an increase of 31% in overall monthly sales and an increase of 19% in Jan-June 2015.

The increase is one of the biggest reported by any auto maker for June, though the base is small.

The company attributed the increase to the recent successful launches of the New Vento and the New Jetta.

The Volkswagen Polo, the only hatchback in its segment that comes with a 4-star NCAP safety rating for adult occupants, also continues to contribute to Volkswagen’s increase in sales, it said.

Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd. said, “We have witnessed our 5th consecutive increase in monthly sales, and we attribute this achievement to our recently launched New Vento, growing trust in the brand amongst consumers and an excellent dealer network. This has been an exciting year for Volkswagen Cars, and it gives us immense pleasure to report an increase of 19% in our overall sales for the period of Jan – June 2015. The growth of 31% in the month of June 2015 is higher than the industry average, and we remain confident of continuing to improve our sales figures over the coming months.”


TVS MOTOR CO

TVS Motor Company recorded 8% growth in sales for the month of June 2015 with total sales increasing from 205,403 units recorded in the month of June 2014 to 222,099 units in the month of June 2015.

The company’s total exports grew by 26% with sales increasing from 34,103 units in the month of June 2014 to 43,025 units in June 2015. Two wheeler exports grew by 25% with sales increasing from 26,681 units in June 2014 to 33,233 units in June 2015.

Total two wheeler sales grew by 7% increasing from 196,486 units recorded in June 2014 to 211,002 units in June 2015. Domestic two wheeler sales increased by 5% from 169,805 units in June 2014 to 177,769 units in June 2015.

Scooters sales of the company grew by 5% increasing from 58,328 units in June 2014 to 61,241 units in June 2015. Motorcycles sales grew by 16% increasing from 76,734 units in the month of June 2014 to 88,675 units in June 2015.

Three wheeler sales of the company registered an increase of 24%, growing from 8,917 units in June 2014 to 11,097 units in June 2015.

YAMAHA INDIA

Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. announced a growth of 26% in domestic sales in June 2015 as compared to the corresponding period last year.

Along with its innovative efforts, ongoing customer-centric activities, exciting product line-up with the likes of its new scooter ‘Fascino’ and 125cc commuter bike Yamaha ‘Saluto’, has been instrumental in boosting its sales.

The company sold 51,432 units in June 2015 as against 40,666 units sold in June last year in the domestic market thereby registering a domestic sales growth of 26%.

In the Export markets the company sold 14,708 units in June 2015 as compared to 12,819 units sold in the same month last year achieving a growth of 15%. The overall sales stood at 66,140 units in June 2015 while 53,485 units were sold in June 2014, thereby registering a 24% overall growth.

Commenting on the company’s gradual growth, Mr. Roy Kurian, Vice President – Sales & Marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd, said, “This month we witnessed brisk growth due to our robust product line-up and new launches during the year so far. Our new stylish Scooter ‘Fascino’ and 125 cc bike Yamaha Saluto, have indeed been key in boosting our sales.

“Also, the new range of Alpha, Ray and Ray Z scooters for the year 2015 enabled with Yamaha’s Next Generation ‘Blue Core’ engine concept continues to be a fundamental growth driver for us. We are hopeful on our sales growth and will be able to post some record numbers in the coming months.”

Tata Motors continued to witness strong growth in certain key segments as passenger cars growing 44% due to the launch of the Zest and the Bolt.

Total commercial and passenger vehicles sales (including exports) in June 2015 was 40,870 vehicles, a growth of 6% over 38,574 vehicles sold in June 2014.

The company’s domestic sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles for June 2015 were at 35,823 nos., growth of 3% over 34,760 vehicles sold in June 2014.

In June 2015, Tata Motors passenger vehicles recorded an year-on-year growth of 30%, with sales of 10,281, compared to 7,911. The growth trend was driven by the cars segment, specifically the new launches of Zest and Bolt and the new GenX Nano.

The sales of the passenger cars in June 2015 were higher by 44% at 8,516, compared to 5,933 in June 2014. The UV sales declined by 11% at 1,765 nos., in June 2015.

For the year so far, sales of all passenger vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal are 31,649 nos., higher by 29% over last year.

In the commercial vehicles, medium and heavy vehicle sales continued to show growth at 11,450 nos., higher by 18%, over June 2014.

The Light & Small Commercial Vehicle sales however continued to reflect the industry decline and were at 14,092, a decline of 18% over June 2014. These impacted the overall commercial vehicles sales for the company in June 2015 in the domestic market that were at 25,542, a decline of 5%, over June 2014.

Cumulative sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal was 71,351, lower by 5% over last year. Cumulative LCV sales was 38,934, a decline of 19% over last year, while M&HCV sales at 32,417, were higher by 18%, over last year.

The company’s sales from exports were 5,047 nos., in June 2015, higher by 32% compared to 3,814 vehicles in June 2014. The cumulative sales from exports for the fiscal at 13,511 nos., were higher by 32%, over 10,227 nos., sold last year.

MAHINDRA & MAHINDRA

Mahindra & Mahindra’s auto sales numbers fell 6% to 36,134 vehicles during June 2015 from 38,466 for June 2014.

The Passenger Vehicles segment (which includes UVs, Cars and Vans) sold 15,880 units in June 2015 as against 18,635 units during June 2014. The Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles segment sold 404 units, registering a growth of 45%.

The company’s domestic sales stood at 33,282 units during June 2015 as against 36,452 units during June 2014.

Exports for June 2015 stood at 2,852 units registering a growth of 42%.

Speaking on the auto sales performance, Pravin Shah, President & Chief Executive (Automotive), Mahindra & Mahindra said, “We expect buoyancy in demand going forward.. our recently launched products, the New Age XUV500 and the all new SCV, Jeeto have been very well received by the customers.”

TOYOTA

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) sold 12,381 units in June 2015 compared to 13,398 units in June 2014. The company exported 1,917 units of Etios series last month.

Despite production shut down for the first six days of last month, in the domestic market, TKM sold 10,464 units in June 2015 as compared to 12,010 units in June 2014. There was limited production last month on account of planned annual plant shut down scheduled from 29th May to 6th June, for regular maintenance.

The company domestic sales grew by 19% in the first half of the year when compared to the same period in 2014. The company has recently launched the New Innova, New Fortuner, and updated versions of Camry and Camry Hybrid.
