Tired of getting stuck with fresh recruits who do not have required skills, outsourcing companies in India, along with industry body Nasscom, have launched a new finance and accounting course.
The course, created with the support of Business Process Management companies across the country, will help students in pursuing the finance & accounting occupation in the IT-BPM industry, Nasscom said in a statement.
“India has a large talent base that can be skilled to address the requirements of the IT-BPM industry, both present and future. This can be achieved by reducing the skills gap that exists between industry requirements and academic outcomes,” it added.
Indian companies in the outsourcing sector have faced issues of ’employability’ of college graduates. Companies typically spend 6 months to 1 year training their fresh recruits to make them ’employable’.
“Industry’s independent efforts to train people to address their requirements could be limited and hence an orientation to skill development addressing both on and off campus candidates would auger well for a sustainable talent pool in the finance & accounting service line/occupation.”
The ‘Associate- Intermediate F&A’ i.e. finance & accounting intermediate courseware (facilitator guide and student handbook) outlines the pedagogical approach and learning methodologies that aims to empower students with the requisite competencies in this job role.
“This collective effort of developing courseware by BPM companies is to equip candidates with the key skills required by the industry for this job role. In this job individuals who are analytical and result oriented are responsible for financial activities that are largely simple and transactional in nature towards systematic and timely recording, reporting, and analysis of financial transactions of a business,” said Sandhya Chintala, Executive Director, SSC NASSCOM & Vice President, NASSCOM.
” The initiative in the F&A occupation/service line is a collective effort from the Industry led by Genpact to bridge the gap between academia and what the industry needs in terms of skills to employ people.
This is consistent with Genpact and NASSCOM´s enables the learning ecosystem to generate sustainable employability. Extensive effort has been put into defining the skills, the courseware and the learning approach-we hope to see this get leveraged extensively by colleges and universities in India.
